Former mayor of New York, billionaire Michael Bloomberg bought a $44.79 million ranch in the US state of Colorado, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing informed sources.
A plot of 4.6 thousand acres (1.8 thousand hectares – RBC) was purchased from the American financier and co-founder of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co, Henry Kravis. The ranch is located an hour’s drive from the city of Aspen, which is famous for its ski resorts.
The deal closed on April 14, about six weeks after Bloomberg withdrew from the US presidential race.
Former owner Kravis bought the ranch in 1991 for about $5.5 million. ft., which has five bedrooms, a wine cellar, a personal theater and a hot tub. The grounds also include a swimming pool, four-hole golf course, tennis court, helipad, helicopter hangar, two large guest cabins and a carriage house, as well as outbuildings for staff and horses.
Bloomberg withdrew from the presidential campaign on March 4. He explained his decision by the desire to ensure the Democrats victory over the current US President Donald Trump. The billionaire named former Vice President Joe Biden as the best candidate for this.
Michael Bloomberg served as mayor of New York from 2002 to 2013. While in this position, he represented both the Democratic and Republican parties. Bloomberg is also known as a philanthropist and owner of the Bloomberg news agency of the same name, which he founded in 1981 from the sale of shares in Salomon Brothers.
